Aikawa Nanase debuted in 1995, with the help of her producer Oda Tetsuro. Featuring rock tracks and a biker girl image (By Japanese standards anyway), she was a closely watched rising new star.

She first caught my attention with her debut single. Not enough to run out to buy a CD, but her unpretentious style is quite refreshing. Since then I've been quietly following her single releases. Local record shops didn't see fit to stock her singles, so I just waited until an album release.

When I heard that the local SJ Kinokuniya has Red in stock, I hurried down there during lunch break, only to find they're sold out. They must have realized their miscalculation and rush ordered another batch. Waited two long weeks…but I was pleasantly rewarded :) - Bo

3/1/1997: Just got Troublemaker. I think this is classic Aikawa. She should sing more of these! I guess Oda Tetsuro had trouble getting Sakai Izumi to sing his harder rock stuff, so that where Nanase comes in. Needless to say, I was rocked. - Bo

4/1/1997: Saw Reflex at SJ Kinokuniya. I just had to snatch it up. Finally, poor SOBs like me can see some music videos in its entirety. - Bo

7/5/1997: Finally caved in and bought Sweet Emotion. For a whole evening mine was the most rockin' cubicle in the company. - Bo

7/12/1997: Like clockwork, Paradox arrived exactly one year after Red at Kinokuniya. I snatched this one up right away. - Bo

4/8/1998: Got Bad Girls and 彼女と私の事情. Both are damned good. And it seems her stage act is getting better and better. Yeah, she is one bad girl. Rock on! - Bo

6/6/1998: Nostalgia Isn't bad. The chorus is quite catchy. But it lacks a certain, um, je ne sais quoi. I'm still waiting for them to release Sweet Emotion music video on tape. - Bo

11/1/1998: Crimson is a mixed album. Nanase's singing a lot of slow tunes. Personally I think her voice and singing ability is better geared toward fast&hard rock tracks. This album is not as good as the last one. I hope they would reverse this trend. - Bo

3/26/1999: Reflex and Radioactive are two video compilations. They're available in VHS, but if you're outside Japan you can also order the VCD version which is a much better buy. I'm however disappointed they chose to use the live version of Sweet Emotion in Radioactive. I know they have another MTV version because I've seen the commercials. - Bo
